These days, Lüne Abbey is home to a cheerful, active and modern Lutheran convent. Up to 10 ladies live in this picturesque setting with the abbess and are actively engaged in shaping life in a modern convent.
Depending on an individual member’s personal preferences and abilities, a multitude of cultural, social and educational tasks await. For example, as part of the guided abbey tours, in public relations, in research and publication, in gardening, archive and the library, in working with children, cooperation with the church or the organisation of cultural events. Fluency in German is a prerequisite.
We begin our weekly convent meeting with a brief service in the abbey’s chapel dedicated to St Barbara. Sunday services are celebrated together with the Lutheran congregation of Lüne who is “at home” in the Abbey Church of St Bartholomew.
On the second and fourth Friday of each month, visitors are cordially invited to our ecumenical evensong on the Nun’s Choir. This half-hour liturgical evening prayer starts in the fountain hall at 17:30; following venerable monastic tradition, it is a blend of sung psalms, prayer and silence. It has attracted many visitors from near and far,
and you are cordially invited too!
